Departmental Orders

Departmental orders should be submitted on an Interdepartmental Communications Request (ICR). Each wireless LAN service request must include the PID and name of the user. The wired Ethernet portal number (e.g. McBryde 210TP12A) of the user's desktop network connection to be associated with the wireless LAN service must also be included.

Departmental requests for wireless network service for users who do not have wired Ethernet connections should also be placed via an ICR. Fees for wireless network service only include an order processing fee of $20.00 and a monthly fee of $10.

Forms can be submitted to Customer Support Services in person at Communications Network Services (CNS). CNS's offices are open from 8am to 5pm and are located at 1770 Forecast Drive, in the Corporate Research Center. You may also send the form via campus mail (Mail Code 0506).

Department requests for Guest Wireless Sponsorships need to fill out the Guidelines for Providing Sponsored Access to the Wireless Network to University Guests form and return it to Customer Support Services (Mail Code 0506).

Personal Orders

Faculty, staff, alumni, retirees, and other non-student private Virginia Tech affiliates may register for personally paid wireless LAN service using the PDF form. Fees for wireless network service only include an order processing fee of $20.00 and a monthly fee of $15.00. You must have a valid, active, university Personal Identifier (PID) to register for the service.

You may return the form to Customer Support Services in person at Communications Network Services (CNS). CNS's offices are open from 8am to 5pm and are located at 1770 Forecast Drive, in the Corporate Research Center. You may also send the form via campus mail (Mail Code 0506).

Self-service guest wireless (non-sponsored)

Intended for short-term 'day' visitors with standard Internet access requirements, self-service non-sponsored guest wireless is a free service designed to accommodate most users, including parents, friends, and prospective students.

To register: connect to the VirginiaTech wireless network on your device and open a web browser. Select "Guest" and follow the prompts. After completing the registration form, you will receive an SMS text with your login credentials.

Sponsored guest wireless

University visitors, such as contractors, conference attendees, and vendors who may require longer access than the 9 hours provided by non-sponsored accounts can have a sponsored account provided by a sponsoring department. If you require longer-term service, please consult with your university contact to discuss a sponsored guest account. Your university contact will provide you with login account credentials to use on the VirginaTech wireless network.
