Computer Systems & Network Outage: Sunday, January 11

All computer systems located in the Andrews Information Systems Building will be down on Sunday, January 11, starting at 9 a.m. Systems should be available by 4 p.m. These systems include:

  • E-mail (including WebMail, Exchange, Listserv)
  • The Virginia Tech Modem Pool
  • Blackboard
  • Hokie SPA and all other Banner applications
  • The Data Warehouse
  • Filebox
  • MyStorage
  • Web hosting facilities including the VT Web site (www.vt.edu), MyVT, computing.vt.edu and answers.vt.edu
  • ED-Auth and Hokies authentication services
  • The University Libraries' online catalog and proxy servers
  • VTAIX
  • License servers for MATLAB, IMSL, Mathematica, and Abaqus on discovery.cc.vt.edu

The disruption is required to enable the connection of a new Power Distribution Unit necessary to support the equipment housed in the Andrews Information Systems Building at the Corporate Research Center.

Systems that undergo routine maintenance on Sunday will likely be down longer than the above period. Administrators of those systems will send details to appropriate personnel. Some systems may also be taken down earlier than 9 a.m.

Since the CNS modem pool will be down, dial-in access will not be available. However, campus Ethernet users will still have access to off-campus Internet sites.

During the outage, the Virginia Tech Operations Center (231-HELP) will be staffed and able to provide information and updates. Before January 11, if you have questions or concerns, please email them to 4help@vt.edu prior to 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 9.
