Community Choice Plan

Calls originating from Blacksburg telephone numbers (prefixes 231, 232, 552, 557, 558, 770, 951, 953 or 961) may be called on a 7-digit basis to Alum Ridge (763), Ballard (593), Floyd (745), Locust Grove (651) and Willis (789). Calls placed to these locations no longer require dialing "1 + area code + the phone number" and will be charged a reduced long-distance rate of $0.05 per minute 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This calling enhancement is known as the Community Choice Plan is made possible by an agreement with Citizens Telephone Cooperative.

Directory listings for these exchanges are available by dialing 9 + 411. Dialing 9 + 1 + 540-555-1212 is no longer required. However, calling card calls originating from University phone lines, placed to these locations, should be dialed 9 + calling card instructions (use the 10-digit number for the destination).

This change was effective September 1, 1998 may require reprogramming telephone equipment (e.g. "speed-dial", "rep" buttons and programmed fax machine buttons).
