Interdepartmental Communications Request
Can multiple service requests be made with a single ICR?
No. CNS will not accept multiple service requests on a single ICR. You may only
request one service for each ICR. Please contact the CNS Ordering and Provisioning
Team at 231-6460 (1-6460 on campus) for guidance on requesting more than five
simultaneous or related services.
What is the Username and Password for the ICR?
Please contact the CNS Ordering and Provisioning Team at 231-6460 (1-6460 on
campus) to apply for the Username and Password. The Username and Password are
required to generate the authorizing signature block and the assignment of
a unique, traceable ICR number for your records and ours. At this time, the
ICR cannot be submitted electronically. ICRs received without an authorized
signature will not be processed.
When will the ICR actually be submitted on-line?
CNS is developing an ICR that will be a fully electronic, paperless transaction
similar to many e-commerce applications. Communications Liaisons will be kept
apprised of its development. At this time, however, ICRs received without
an authorized signature will not be processed.
Do I always need to put something in the Order Description box?
No. The Order Description Box is to elaborate unique or particular circumstances associated with a service request.
Why do I get a message that says the page can't be displayed?
The message appears when the server hosting the ICR and assigning the ICR tracking
number is experiencing heavy traffic. Users can refresh their browser or try
again at a later time. Please note that the ICR is not stored and exiting the
form will result in a loss of data.
Where do I find the ICR form?
The OICR resides under the heading Online Orders of the Departmental Telecommunications section of the CNS Internet web site at www.cns.vt.edu/dept.
Is the ICR stored electronically?
No. At this time, the ICR is not stored electronically due to the need
for an authorizing signature. The form is designed as a convenience
and to transition toward the next generation ICR that will be a fully
electronic and paperless process.
