Conference Calls

Unified Communications (Avaya) Phones

With the Avaya 9611g phone, you can conference call with up to five other people, regardless of whether they are internal to Virginia Tech.

Initiating a Conference Call

  1. Call the first person who will participate in the conference call or make sure you are on an active call.
  2. Press the Conf softkey.
  3. Dial the number of someone who will take part in the conference call.
  4. Once they answer, press the Join softkey. At this point you are on a conference call.

Adding People to a Conference Call

  1. Press the Add softkey.
  2. Dial the number of the person that you want to add to the conference call.
  3. Once they answer, press the Join softkey.
  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 above for each caller that you want to add.

 

Web Conferencing

Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) offers the WebEx service at no cost to Virginia Tech faculty and staff.

 

VITA Conferencing Services

  • VITA Reservationless Audio Conferencing –  $0.06 per minute, per attendee
    The standard service that does not require reservations and can accommodate up to 125 participants; the leader can dial out to participants, mute all or individual participants, prevent new callers from joining, and control the audio conference from a Web browser; the conference can be recorded for playback
  • VITA Operator-Assisted Audio Conferencing$0.23 per minute, per attendee
    An enhanced service that permits reservations up to 30 minutes prior to the event and can accommodate up to 10,000 attendees
  • VITA Event Services Audio Conferencing$0.34 per minute, per attendee
    For those high-profile meetings, Event Calls are similar to Operator Calls, with added customer and support capabilities
  • VITA Data Conferencing$0.24 per minute, per attendee
    A web service that allows the leader to post materials and conduct live trainings, presentations or product review sessions online

To use any or all of the suite of VITA audio or data conferencing services, please have your Communications Liaison submit an Interdepartmental Communications Request (ICR) to Customer Support Services to register.

The following information is required on the ICR:

• New conferencing service(s) requested
• Billing telephone number
• Conference card assignee name
• PID of the card assignee
• Address where the Conference card should be sent
