Tech will only charge you for direct dial and directory assistance calls.
- Access to 900, 700 and 500 numbers is not provided on the Virginia
Tech telephone system.
- STUDENTS ARE PROHIBITED FROM ACCEPTING COLLECT CALLS AND BILLING
ANY CALLS OR TELEGRAMS DIRECTLY TO ANY RESIDENCE HALL TELEPHONE NUMBER
(I.E. THIRD PARTY CALLS) SINCE THE TELEPHONE NUMBER MAY BE SHARED. THE
COST OF THESE CALLS AND AN ADMINISTRATIVE FEE OF $10.00 FOR EACH CALL
ACCEPTED WILL BE CHARGED TO THE STUDENT(s) FOUND TO HAVE MADE OR ACCEPTED
SUCH CALLS. IF THE RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUAL CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED, THE
COST WILL BE SPLIT BETWEEN THE ASSIGNED RESIDENTS OF THE ROOM AT THE
TIME THE CALLS WERE ACCEPTED.
- USING A RESIDENCE HALL OR ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY PHONE NUMBER TO APPLY
FOR A CALLING CARD FROM A TELEPHONE COMPANY OR LONG DISTANCE CARRIER
IS PROHIBITED. THE COST OF THE CALLS AND A HANDLING FEE OF $10.00 FOR
EACH CALL WILL BE CHARGED TO THE STUDENT TO WHOM THE CARD BELONGS.
- We do not charge for the use of our limited number of lines available
for calls requiring telephone company operator assistance (calling card,
outgoing collect, etc.). You may occasionally find that the operator-assisted
lines are busy during peak usage hours (approximately 6:00 P.M. to 11:00
P.M.). We strongly encourage you to use direct dial long distance lines
whenever possible. You will receive much faster service utilizing direct
dial as compared to "operator-assisted" or calling card calls.
